Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro

Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro

The most unique thing about the Yoga 3 Pro is its hinge, which #Lenovo says was inspired by the straps of luxury watches. It features visually distinct links which come together in a smooth yet firm mechanism. There's nothing new about a notebook with a lid that can flip over all the way backwards, but the #Yoga 3 Pro's hinge has a totally new and different feel to it.
Aesthetically, this notebook won't be everyone's cup of tea. The Yoga 3 Pro is unremarkably plain from every angle except the rear, and so the blingy segmented hinge feels very out of place. It's safe to say that no other notebook looks quite like this.

At 12.8mm thick and weighing 1.19kg, this is one of the most easily portable notebooks available that still has a large screen and full-sized keyboard. Predictably, physical connectivity is limited: there are only two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port which doubles as the DC charger input, one Micro-HDMI video output, and a SD card reader. You'll also find the power button, a rotation lock button and a volume rocker on the right edge.
Lenovo says the hinge is made of 813 distinct pieces of aluminium and steel. We tried bending and flexing the Yoga 3 Pro's lid and found that it was a lot more stable than most notebooks and 2-in-1s. We could bend it all the way around smoothly and with very little effort. The Yoga 3 Pro's lid was also very stable even at odd angles. It stayed put when propped up like a tent, or bent over backwards like a photo frame.

#Specifications are top-end, and at this price we would not have accepted anything else. The screen is gorgeous, with a WQXGA+ resolution of 3200x1800 pixels (which Lenovo refers to as QHD+ though it is quite a bit higher than even 2560x1440). Text and graphics are ridiculously crisp. For such a thin lid, it's surprising that Lenovo managed to fit in a touchscreen. It will take more detailed inspection to determine how good it is in terms of colour reproduction and performance in various lighting conditions.
As with most modern ultra-thin notebooks, the Yoga 3 Pro is based on Intel's new Core M platform, better known by its codename, Broadwell. Specifically, it's an Intel Core M-5Y71, which has two cores and runs at 1.2GHz but can boost itself up to 2.9GHz in spurts. There's also Intel's HD Graphics 5300 logic integrated into the CPU. Lenovo has gone with 8GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and a Wi-Fi ac module. Don't expect any of these to be swappable or upgradeable.

Launcher Apps for Android

Launcher Apps for Android

Nova Launcher
You can't talk about Android launchers without talking about Nova Launcher. This has been one of our favourites for a long time because of the insane level of customisation it offers. You can tweak everything from the margins around app icons to the scroll icon on the home screen. You can install widgets in the dock, make a scrolling dock, or change the icon grid. It may be a little intimidating for some, but if you love tweaking your phone, you've got to use Nova Launcher. And because of how popular the app is, you'll find lots of guides and other resources like icon packs designed to work with this launcher.
nova_launcher.jpg
However, we've also installed Nova in the past to replace launchers that come pre-installed on some low-end phones and just forgotten about it. It's still a competent launcher even if you don't like messing around with settings and the best part is it's almost always a step-up in terms of performance.
What you want, before you want it
If you don't want to spend too much time customising the phone, then there are some really interesting apps that can optimise your phone for you. EverythingMe Launcher and Yahoo Aviate both track how you're using your phone, and automatically arrange apps to help you get to the ones you want before you even knew you wanted them.
EverythingMe Launcher
EverythingMe is a smart launcher app that sorts all your apps based on your usage. It makes apps you frequently use appear on your default home screen and sorts similar apps into smart folders automatically. This works surprisingly well and is one of our favourite Android launchers. On the home screen, you'll see a dock of apps at the bottom that is based on your usage, and you'll see smart folders like Games, Shopping, Photos and so on, where the relevant apps are sorted for easy access.
everythingme.jpg
There's also a unique search function - in the search bar, type in whatever you're thinking of at that point, and your background will change to reflect that interest. Your home screen will be populated with relevant apps and content stored locally on your phone, along with related apps you can download, and links to relevant webpages.
Yahoo Aviate Launcher
Yahoo Aviate (pictured on top) is another intelligent launcher app that organises your home screen based on your preferences. Unlike EverythingMe Launcher, Aviate ditches the home screen grid and instead shows you a highly simplified layout, with apps sorted by category into scrollable rows. The apps it offers up vary as per the time of day and location, and so you'll see different apps when you're driving to work, and different apps when you're settling into bed to read up at night.
At first, these suggestions are based only on the apps you've installed, but as you keep Aviate as your home screen for longer, the app also learns from your behaviour and starts to make more contextual recommendations. You can still see the list of all apps by swiping to the right-most screen, or get to a Google Now-like card interface of widgets on the extreme left. Aviate also supports icon packs, which means you can quickly change icons of several apps at once by just downloading new packs from Google Play.
Now for Google Now
If you want a smarter home screen but don't necessarily like the idea of an app rearranging all your icons, then launchers like Aviate and EverythingMe aren't the right choice.
Google Now Launcher
This is the default launcher on Nexus and Android One smartphones, and can be installed on other devices too. It is a great choice if you want to move from manufacturers' bloated launchers to a stock Android experience. For the most part, Google Now launcher is only giving you the basic Android experience, and that's actually pretty good for most people. But there are some extra features that make it worth trying out.
google_now_launcher.jpg
For one, it dedicates an entire screen for Google Now, which will please those who use Google's app. The Now Cards have steadily been getting more useful, and that makes this launcher pretty handy. Add to that the fact that you can say Okay Google to launch search at any time, and it becomes really easy to use with minimal taps.

Wiser
Wiser is a really basic launcher that will appeal to those who find smartphone UI too complicated. Its home screens have just six big icons each, where you can execute common actions such as phone, messages and pin up to six of your favourite contacts.
wiser.jpg
It has two more screens where you can pin up to 12 apps. Wiser is a pretty basic launcher, and not for everyone, but we would recommend this launcher for the elderly or anyone who is uncomfortable using their smartphone.
Hola Launcher
While any people prefer the fact that Android allows them to keep some apps hidden away in the app drawer, if you're coming from an iPhone then the switch can be a little disorienting. Hola Launcher is best for those looking for an iOS-like theme with no app drawer.
hola_launcher.jpg
It groups apps automatically to ensure that you can find the ones you're looking for easily. It also has a bunch of cool transition effects for those who like flashy animations.
These are the best Android launchers available on Google Play in our opinion, but there are some more you might want to try. Buzz Launcher has a nice theme with square icons grouped in the centre of the home screen. It's great for those obsessed with multiple neat home screens. Zero Launcher and Apus Launcher offer more ways to get an iOS-like experience on your Android smartphone. Solo Launcher has some great customisable gesture controls and beautiful widgets.

1. ICC Pro Cricket 2015 (iOSAndroidPC)

The "official" ICC Cricket World Cup video game, ICC Pro Cricket 2015 was released by Indiagames, a local studio with a lot of experience in making cricket games. The game features a unique bowling mechanic that has you tracing the ball's trajectory on the screen, which makes for a more immersive experience. Batting has the default camera from behind the stumps much like Don Bradman Cricket and requires you to tap the for a ground or lofted shot as well as choosing the direction.

It can take a little getting used to, but this free mobile game looks amazing and is a lot of fun, as does the PC variant which costs Rs. 609. Motion capture makes an appearance as do realistic graphics along with management and simulation gameplay.
batting_icc_pro_cricket_2015_disney.jpg
This time around its efforts are coupled with the ICC Cricket World Cup license ensuring that you have over 150 official players from 14 teams. What this means is you won't be playing as "MS Dhobi" but as the real MSD.
Download ICC Pro Cricket 2015 for iOSAndroidPC
    2. Don Bradman Cricket (PS4, Xbox One)

The Don Bradman series is possibly the best cricket game available, and the fine folk at Australian studio Big Ant have decided that it was a tragedy to restrict the games to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC alone. Newer consoles also get to share in the fun now, and our review confirms that the addictive gameplay mechanics and modes that made last year's game a triumph have all been retained from the dual stick control scheme for batting and bowling to the exhaustive career mode. If you are a cricket fanatic, it's well worth the Rs. 4,099 asking price.

      3. Real Cricket 14 (iOSAndroid)

Another mobile game, Real Cricket 14 is Nautilus Mobile's debut attempt at the genre. Sporting a unique 2D art style and slick animations, this is a compelling game that's tough to put down. And though the title is a year old, the Android version has been updated for the 2015 Cricket World Cup, with the iOS version expected to get the same treatment soon. The controls are what you'd expect with the use of virtual buttons that are surprisingly tactile, and result in batting and bowling being a cinch.

      bowling_real_cricket_14_nautilus1.jpg
What does the Real Cricket World Cup update bring to the table? Well, there's a free World Cup game mode and all of the game's premium features (except for equipment) such as game modes will be unlocked for India. Furthermore, the Real Cricket Premier League mode which was earlier exclusive to Intel devices will be available for purchase at around Rs. 60.

      4. 10 Ten Cricket Card Battle (iOS)

Another game from the Indiagames' stable, 10 Ten Cricket Card Battle harks back to the days when trump cards were popular. It's a cricket-based card-collection game that has you managing a team, upgrading your players' stats and of course a roster that has every player taking part in the World Cup. Aside from sporting a unique aesthetic, the economy of 10 Ten links with ICC Pro Cricket 2015, which means purchases in either game sync across both games, making for a rather interesting experience, think about it as the cricket equivalent to FIFA's Ultimate Team, allowing you to buy premium players to create an unbeatable squad.

      Ultimate_team_10_ten_cricket_card_battle_disney.jpg
We'll have to see how well this works out, but for now there's enough content to keep you piqued if you like your cricket games to have a more strategic, tactical feel to them.
Download 10 Ten Cricket Card Battle for iOS

      5. Stick Cricket World Cup Edition (Browser)

Stick Cricket has long been the escape for many an office going drone looking to kill time between senseless meetings. As usual, this is a browser-based affair that has you batting in a chase of seemingly insurmountable scores or setting a winning total. Running between wickets is automatic. This time around it's World Cup themed wherein you've to play group matches. Win enough of those and you'll find yourself in the knock out phase followed by the semi-final and then the final itself.

      Batting_stick_cricket_world_cup_edition_stick_sports.jpg
Inspite of its rudimentary gameplay, the bowler descriptions at the start of an over give it some character, making it a humorous affair. The high score chase can get highly addictive, and keep you playing this incredibly basic game for a lot longer than more sophisticated alternatives.
You can fire up Stick Cricket on your desktop browser right now.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Active Coming Soon

Samsung Galaxy Tab Active Coming Soon

#Samsung has announced the Galaxy Tab Active, its tablet offering for the enterprise market, will be headed to India soon. At the annual Samsung Forum event in Thailand on Monday, the company revealed a suggested retail price of around Rs. 52,000, without confirming the exact price and availability details. The company said the device will initially be available only via authorised B2B solutions partners.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active is dust and water-resistant with IP67 certification, and comes with an anti-shock covering, which according to Samsung, can withstand a 1.2 metre drop with the protective cover on.

      Update Google Chrome Extensions Manually

      Update Google Chrome Extensions Manually

The same behaviour also applies to Google Chrome's extensions. There are a huge number of Chrome extensions that add functionality to your browser, giving you another reason to use Google's browser. You've got great extensions that can improve Gmail, save your YouTube videos, or even block out cricket and other topics you don't like on the Web.
Much of this is possible with Mozilla Firefox as well, but there's a big difference. The Chrome extensions just update themselves in the background, unlike many addons in Mozilla Firefox that ask you to restart the browser to manually apply the latest update.

Here's how you can manually update your Google Chrome extensions:
      1. Open Google Chrome on your computer.
      2. In the address bar, type chrome://extensions. Alternatively, you may go to the hamburger icon (three horizontal lines) on the top-right > Settings. Now clickExtensions on the left sidebar.
      3. At the top of the extensions page, check Developer mode. This is next to the bigExtensions text right at the top.
      4. Click Update extensions now under Developer mode.
      google_chrome_extension_manual_update.jpg
This will manually update all of you extensions to the latest version available using Chrome's extension updater process. However, you can also manually update an individual extension by directly downloading it from the developer's website. Follow these steps:
      1. Download the extension file (should end in .CRX) from the developer's website. When you try to download it, Chrome will warn you that this kind of file can be used to harm your computer. Click Keep to continue.
      2. Open the extensions page and enable developer mode in Chrome as explained above. Delete the old extension by clicking on the trashcan icon to its right, and clicking on Remove.
      3. Locate the .CRX file you downloaded, and drag and drop it into the extensions page.
      4. You will be asked to confirm the installation. Click Add. That's it, the new version will be installed.

The #Dropbox for iOS users will now see the 'Save to Dropbox' feature under the sharing button of any app and can directly upload the files to their #Dropbox accounts in specific folders. If in case the users are not able to view the feature, they can simply open the share menu of a photo or a document that they want to save, scroll to right on the bottom row and tap on 'More' option to turn on the Dropbox Action Extension. Users can also reorder the extensions on the sharing list. The updated app is available to download from the App Store.

Customise the Look of Your Windows 8 PC

Customise the Look of Your Windows 8 PC

      1. Rainmeter

We've loved Rainmeter for years now, and the desktop customisation program is compatible with Windows 8. Rainmeter lets you customise your experience by adding widgets (called skins) that float on the desktop. These can range from system resource monitors, to feeds from your email accounts. Weather forecasts and scratchpads are just some of the other customisations you can add, and the best thing is that users upload their own custom skins as well, so there's a huge repository of customisations that are ready to download and use.

Even without that, you can simply download a skin themed after your favourite film, with quick access to your information and favourite programs, or use a minimalist skin that lets you work in a beautiful, abstract environment.

      2. 8GadgetPack

If you don't want to be overwhelmed with customisation options, and just want your desktop gadgets, then 8GadgetPack is the easiest option out there. It's been highly recommended by many users, and while we prefer the customisability of Rainmeter, if you're more interested in the functions than in a beautiful display, then 8GadgetPack is a good choice. It creates a sidebar on your Windows 8 desktop, where you can display the clock, calendar, weather and other widgets.

There are widgets for Gmail, a simple currency convertor, RSS feeds and calendars. These make 8GadgetPack a useful, unobtrusive method to keep on top of things without wasting time in setting things up.

      3. Start Screen Unlimited

Start Screen Unlimited is a start screen replacement that allows you to add gadgets to the Windows 8 desktop. The gadgets look like Windows Live tiles, and you can create a busy tiled interface that looks like your Start Screen, or you can place only the gadgets that are relevant to you.

So you could, for instance, create a screen with feeds for sports updates, or add the clock or a Web search widget right on the desktop. Start Screen Unlimited is free, but it also has a Deluxe version which has a few extra features and also supports commercial use. Even without paying though, you can add a number of useful gadgets, such as a stopwatch, and a easy to find power button - something that is hidden away in Windows 8.
